Obama clarifies remarks on aliens, says no evidence of contact

Published on: February 17, 2026 3:15 PM

Aliens exist," Obama clarifies statement that attracted great attention - Telegraph

Former United States President Barack Obama has clarified recent remarks he made about extraterrestrial life, emphasizing that while aliens may exist, he has not seen any evidence of contact with Earth.

Obama shared a clip of his statement on Instagram and added a caption to provide context. He wrote, “I was trying to stick with the spirit of the speed round, but since it’s gotten attention let me clarify. Statistically, the universe is so vast that the odds are good there’s life out there.”

The 44th president further explained that while the probability of alien life existing is high due to the vastness of the universe, the distances between solar systems make it unlikely that Earth has been visited. “The chances we’ve been visited by aliens is low, and I saw no evidence during my presidency that extraterrestrials have made contact with us. Really!” he added.

The comments came during a recent interview with American podcast host Brian Tyler Cohen, in which Obama participated in a “quickfire lightning round of questions.” When asked if aliens are real, he replied, “They are real but I haven’t seen them. They are not being kept in Area 51. There’s no underground facility unless there’s this enormous conspiracy and they hid it from the president of the United States.”

Obama’s statement quickly drew attention online, with social media users discussing the implications of his remarks. One X user wrote, “Former President mentions aliens are real… and we just glide past it? I honestly wish the host had leaned in and asked for a few deeper follow ups.” Another added, “The Obama statement about aliens recently … this stuff is for real.”

Despite Obama’s clarification, conspiracy theorists continue to speculate that the government is withholding further information about extraterrestrial life. For now, Obama’s message is clear: while life elsewhere in the universe is statistically plausible, no evidence of alien visitation has been confirmed.
