Zardari targets opposition, urges political resilience

Published on: February 17, 2026 4:44 PM

President Asif Ali Zardari has once again criticized political opponents, emphasizing patience and resilience in public life. Speaking in Wahari, he said Pakistan lost four years due to halted progress and daily political rhetoric. His remarks were widely interpreted as a sharp reference to former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Zardari stressed that political leadership requires tolerance and maturity, saying those unable to endure challenges should choose simpler paths. “If you cannot bear politics, do something easier. You could become Mother Teresa or a cricket star,” he remarked. He highlighted the importance of enduring hardships as part of public service.

Addressing farmers, the president emphasized that strengthening agriculture is essential for Pakistan’s economic growth. He said the country possesses abundant resources but lacks consistent planning and modern techniques. “National progress depends on empowering farmers and promoting modern farming practices,” he added.

Zardari also discussed governance achievements, noting he increased judges’ salaries threefold and approaches every decision with careful thought. On foreign policy, he reiterated that Kashmir remains Pakistan’s lifeline and no compromise will be tolerated. He credited Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto for securing Pakistan’s nuclear capability amid regional threats.

He criticized the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for poor performance and warned that progress requires cooperation across provinces. “Politics demands flexibility, collaboration, and patience,” Zardari said. He emphasized that full improvement will take time but reassured citizens that the government is committed to long-term development.
