FBI warns of potential Iran attack on US west coast amid ongoing Gulf conflict

FBI warned California that Iran could launch drones at the West Coast: report; Trump says 'not worried' - The Hindu

WASHINGTON, D.C.: The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has issued warnings to California law enforcement agencies about a potential “surprise” attack on the US west coast, reportedly planned by Iran using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) launched from an unidentified vessel.

The warnings, circulated last month by the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, indicated that the potential attack could target unspecified locations in California if the US conducted strikes against Iran. However, sources familiar with counterterrorism efforts told Los Angeles Times that the threat is cautionary and “has not been deemed credible at this time.”

California authorities, including the San Francisco Police Department and Governor Gavin Newsom, confirmed they are monitoring the situation closely and are prepared to respond to any emergency.

US President Donald Trump addressed the ongoing conflict with Iran at a rally in Kentucky, claiming US forces had “virtually destroyed Iran” and significantly degraded its naval capabilities, including the destruction of 58 Iranian ships. Trump signaled that military operations could continue, stating the US must “finish the job,” while also indicating that the conflict could end soon as there is “practically nothing left to target.”

Meanwhile, Iran has warned of prolonged economic impacts and escalating attacks on ships, banks, and US-allied interests in the Gulf region. Iranian forces reportedly struck several merchant vessels, including a Thai-flagged bulk carrier set ablaze in the Strait of Hormuz, and fired missiles targeting US bases in Iraq, Bahrain, and Israel. Explosions and drone incidents were also reported in Dubai and Oman.

The attacks have raised global concerns over maritime security and oil supply, with the International Energy Agency recommending the release of 400 million barrels from strategic reserves to stabilize prices. Oil briefly spiked to nearly $120 per barrel before settling around $90.

As tensions escalate, both the US and Iran continue to posture militarily, while authorities emphasize vigilance and preparedness on both sides of the conflict.
