Iran warns over Strait of Hormuz control

Published on: April 17, 2026 4:12 PM

Iran has declared it will not withdraw from the Strait of Hormuz until its full rights are recognized. Adviser to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei Mohsen Rezaei issued the warning during an interview with Iranian media. The statement heightens regional tensions and impacts global energy security and maritime trade.

Rezaei said the United States fears a prolonged war with Iran. He claimed Iran remains fully prepared for long-term confrontation if needed. Moreover, he stated that Iranian forces are ready to defend maritime positions in the region.

He further alleged that Iranian missile systems are prepared to target US naval vessels if required. He stressed that Iran will not leave the Strait of Hormuz until its rights are fully recognized. Additionally, he questioned US naval movements in the strategic waterway.

Rezaei argued that American caution reflects Iran’s growing deterrence capability in the region. He suggested that the United States avoids direct escalation in the Strait. Meanwhile, tensions continue amid broader uncertainty in Middle Eastern security dynamics.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most important oil transit routes. Analysts warn that any escalation could disrupt global energy supplies and shipping flows. However, diplomatic engagement continues as regional actors seek to avoid further escalation.
