
Pakistan has reported more than 2,000 HIV cases among children over the past 15 months, according to the federal health ministry. The figures highlight a growing public health concern, with Sindh emerging as the most affected province. The development raises urgent questions about prevention and healthcare response.
According to the Common Management Unit of the federal Ministry of Health, 2,108 children were diagnosed with HIV during the period. The affected group includes 1,274 boys and 834 girls. Officials said the data reflects nationwide surveillance across multiple regions.

Sindh recorded the highest number of cases, with 1,515 children diagnosed during the 15-month period. This includes 1,186 cases in 2025 and 329 cases in the first three months of 2026. Consequently, the province accounts for the majority of reported infections.
Punjab ranked second with 418 child HIV cases reported in 2025. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded 111 cases, while Balochistan reported 38 cases. Additionally, Islamabad registered 22 cases during the same period.

Officials also reported isolated cases in other regions, including three in Azad Kashmir and one in Gilgit-Baltistan. Health authorities continue to monitor the situation closely. Meanwhile, experts stress the need for stronger prevention and awareness measures to curb further spread.
