US ceasefire step praised as peace move

Published on: April 22, 2026 8:45 PM

Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan has described the recent US ceasefire initiative as an important step toward regional peace. He said the move reflects growing space for diplomacy over conflict in a tense geopolitical environment. The statement came during his interaction with media outside the Punjab Assembly in Lahore.

He praised the diplomatic efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, calling them commendable. He said Pakistan is playing a meaningful role in reducing tensions between Iran and the United States. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of continued engagement to build trust between conflicting sides.

The Speaker noted that the dispute is long-standing and complex, requiring strong diplomatic efforts to bridge differences. He said Pakistan’s position is significant in facilitating communication between both parties. However, he acknowledged that trust issues between Iran and the US still persist.

Malik Ahmad Khan said the Prime Minister’s role in supporting dialogue and achieving a ceasefire extension would be remembered positively. He added that diplomatic progress under difficult circumstances represents a major achievement. Additionally, he emphasized that political reconciliation within Pakistan is also necessary.

He urged political forces to move towards dialogue and consensus on national issues, including an economic charter. He said global power dynamics are changing rapidly, making outcomes uncertain.
