Pakistan Becomes First Country Outside China to Assemble Tank 500 PHEV

Published on: April 29, 2026 7:15 PM

Great Wall Motor (GWM), in collaboration with Sazgar Engineering Works Limited, has officially begun the CKD assembly of the Tank 500 in Pakistan. The milestone makes Pakistan the first country outside China to locally assemble the Tank 500 Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV).

Announced at an exclusive ceremony attended by senior government officials and Chinese diplomatic representatives, the development highlights Pakistan’s growing importance in the global automotive and new-energy vehicle ecosystem.

The Tank 500 represents GWM’s flagship SUV, combining luxury, performance, and advanced hybrid technology. Its local assembly demonstrates the company’s long-term commitment to Pakistan and aligns with global trends toward electrification and sustainable mobility.

Over the past five years, GWM has steadily expanded its presence in Pakistan through its partnership with Sazgar Engineering Works Limited. Models such as the HAVAL H6 have played a key role in strengthening the brand’s footprint in the country’s SUV segment.

Mr. Walker, Country Manager of GWM Pakistan, noted that the CKD rollout reflects the company’s confidence in Pakistan’s market potential. Meanwhile, Mr. Mian Asad Hameed, CEO of Sazgar Engineering Works Limited, emphasized the importance of localization and technology transfer in advancing the nation’s automotive industry.

As global automakers continue to explore new markets for hybrid and electric vehicles, the local assembly of the Tank 500 PHEV positions Pakistan as an emerging player in the evolving mobility landscape.
