Australia choose to bat in series-deciding Lahore ODI

Published on: June 4, 2026 7:11 PM

Australia elected to bat first against Pakistan in the third and final One-Day International at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, setting the stage for a crucial contest. With the series hanging in the balance, both teams entered the match determined to deliver a strong performance and secure victory in the decider.

The visitors arrived with confidence after registering a convincing 41-run win in the second ODI. As a result, Australia will look to build on that momentum, while Pakistan aims to bounce back quickly and finish the series on a positive note in front of home supporters.

Australia made one change to their playing XI by bringing in Cooper Connolly in place of Tanveer Sangha. The adjustment reflects the team’s strategy to strengthen its balance and add fresh energy as it seeks to overcome Pakistan in the decisive encounter.

Meanwhile, Pakistan retained a combination of experienced players and emerging talent for the high-pressure clash. The batting unit features Babar Azam, Salman Ali Agha and Abdul Samad, while captain Shaheen Shah Afridi leads a bowling attack supported by Haris Rauf, Abrar Ahmed and Arafat Minhas.

Young players Sahibzada Farhan, Maaz Sadaqat and wicketkeeper Ghazi Ghori also have an opportunity to make a significant impact. Pakistan will rely on a collective effort from both batters and bowlers as the team looks to respond strongly against a confident Australian side.

With the series outcome at stake, fans can expect an intense battle between two competitive teams. The conditions in Lahore are expected to test both sides, making partnerships, disciplined bowling and smart decision-making crucial factors in determining the winner.
