Section 144 imposed in Diamer for two months

Published on: June 7, 2026 3:09 AM

Display of weapons and aerial firing were prohibited as the deputy commissioner Diamer, Gilgit Baltistan (GB) Lt (r) Muhammad Owais on Saturday imposed section 144 in the district for two months in view of the fragile law-and-order situation. The notification, which came into effect on June 5, also placed a ban on flying drones, unmanned aerial vehicles and explosion of crackers in the district during the aforementioned period. The flight of drones will only be allowed with the permission of the district magistrate who will issue a no-objection certificate (NOC) for the purpose. However, the personnel of law-enforcement agencies would be exempted from these restrictions, read the notification. Similarly, administrative measures have been taken for the protection of sensitive installations. The district administration has appealed to the citizens to comply with these orders; or otherwise, strict action would be taken against them. It is worth-mentioning here that two PML-N workers had been killed in an incident of firing during the party’s public gathering in GB on Friday. The general elections for the GB Assembly will be held tomorrow.
