US-Iran peace deal to be signed on June 19 in Switzerland, says Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif - IBTimes India

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has welcomed the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the US and Iran, describing the agreement as a historic step toward peace and stability in the Middle East.

In a statement shared on social media, the prime minister said the memorandum had been electronically signed by the presidents of both countries and expressed pride in supporting the process as a mediator. He said the agreement marked an important diplomatic achievement that could help reduce tensions and promote regional cooperation.

Shehbaz Sharif praised US President Donald Trump for his commitment to diplomacy and peaceful conflict resolution. He said Trump’s efforts played a key role in preventing a wider conflict that could have had serious consequences for the region and the international community.

The prime minister also acknowledged the contributions of the US negotiating team, including Vice President J.D. Vance, special envoy Steve Witkoff and adviser Jared Kushner, for their role in advancing the talks and helping secure the agreement.

On the Iranian side, Shehbaz Sharif commended Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian for what he described as their wisdom and commitment to peace. He also recognized the efforts of Iranian negotiators Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Abbas Araghchi and Eskandar Momeni in reaching the understanding.

The premier further highlighted the constructive role played by regional partners, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Egypt, whose diplomatic engagement helped facilitate dialogue between the two sides.

Shehbaz Sharif also paid tribute to Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, stating that his dedication and efforts were instrumental in supporting the peace initiative and promoting regional stability.

Expressing optimism about the future, the prime minister said the memorandum could serve as a foundation for greater mutual understanding, respect and cooperation between nations, while contributing to long-term peace and shared prosperity across the region.
