Zardari urges nation to follow Karbala’s message on Ashura

Published on: June 26, 2026 9:43 AM

President Asif Ali Zardari has called on the nation to embrace the enduring lessons of Karbala, saying the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) inspires Muslims to uphold truth, justice, patience and moral courage. In his message for Youm-e-Ashura, he described the occasion as one of the most significant days in Islamic history, reminding believers to remain steadfast in the face of oppression and hardship.

The president said Ashura not only commemorates important events in Islamic history but also honours the supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the beloved grandson of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Alongside the members of Ahl-e-Bait and their loyal companions, Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) laid down his life in Karbala in 61 AH to protect the true values and teachings of Islam.

Describing Karbala as a timeless lesson for humanity, President Zardari said the tragedy continues to inspire people across generations. He noted that Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) proved that protecting truth, justice, integrity and human dignity requires unwavering commitment, while surrendering to falsehood, tyranny and injustice should never be accepted under any circumstances.

Furthermore, the president urged citizens to reflect the values of righteousness, patience, selflessness, ethical courage and service to humanity in both personal and public life. He also appealed to the nation to promote peace, tolerance, inter-sect harmony and brotherhood during Ashura while avoiding rumours, hate speech and any actions that could undermine national unity.

Concluding his message, President Zardari prayed for Pakistan and the wider Muslim Ummah, asking Allah Almighty to grant people the wisdom to understand the true message of Karbala. He expressed hope that the nation would continue to follow the principles of truth, justice, patience and piety while strengthening unity, compassion and mutual respect across society.
