Iran claims strikes on US-linked targets

Published on: June 27, 2026 5:35 PM

Iran said it struck targets linked to US forces in response to recent American airstrikes on its southern coast. Tehran described the US attacks as violations of the UN Charter and a war-ending memorandum. The exchange raises fresh concerns over regional security and the risk of further military escalation.

Iran’s foreign ministry announced the retaliatory action but did not identify the targets or disclose their locations. The statement said the strikes were carried out after US military operations targeted Iranian territory. However, Iranian officials provided no further operational details or information about casualties or damage.

The latest development follows US airstrikes launched on Friday after an Iranian drone reportedly attacked a cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz. US Central Command said its aircraft struck missile and drone storage facilities, along with coastal radar sites. Meanwhile, Iranian media reported that a projectile hit an area near a pier in the coastal city of Sirik.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most important energy shipping routes. Consequently, renewed military activity has increased concerns about maritime security and regional stability. Neither side has indicated whether additional military action is planned following the latest exchange.

Separately, Israel and Lebanon signed an agreement aimed at ending hostilities involving Iran-backed Hezbollah. Both sides described the deal as an initial step requiring Hezbollah to disarm and Israeli forces to withdraw from Lebanon. However, Hezbollah said it would not cooperate, leaving uncertainty over the agreement’s implementation.
