A series of moderate earthquakes has been recorded across Pakistan since yesterday, with tremors felt in multiple regions including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Punjab, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir. Authorities say at least six moderate quakes have occurred in the country during this period, raising concern among residents.
Islamabad and surrounding areas experienced strong tremors, while similar shaking was reported in major cities including Lahore. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, several districts including Swat, Mardan, Charsadda, Kohat and Buner were affected. Tremors were also felt in Balochistan’s Kohlu and Barkhan regions.
According to seismic monitoring officials, one of the earthquakes measured 5.9 magnitude at a depth of 178 kilometers, with its epicentre located in Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region. Earlier tremors of magnitude 5.2 were also recorded in southern Balochistan, while mild shocks were reported in Multan and nearby areas. Authorities continue to monitor seismic activity across the region.
Chief Meteorologist Amir Hyder Laghari said Balochistan has experienced a continued series of earthquakes since yesterday. He stated that these events are occurring along the Eurasian tectonic plate. Geological experts suggested that recent global seismic activity may have contributed to regional tremors.
Some experts claimed that energy waves generated by powerful earthquakes in Venezuela may have influenced tectonic movement across connected plates. However, scientists also noted that earthquakes cannot be accurately predicted and that Pakistan’s seismic activity remains within normal tectonic behavior. Authorities have urged the public to remain alert and follow safety precautions.
