The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced a nationwide bank holiday on Wednesday, July 1, during which banks will remain closed for public transactions. Banking services for customers will be suspended, although employees will report to work as usual. The holiday also applies to development financial institutions and microfinance banks.
According to the SBP, all commercial banks across Pakistan will remain closed for customer dealings on July 1. Public transactions, including over-the-counter banking services, will not be available during the bank holiday. The central bank said the closure is part of its annual banking schedule.
The SBP clarified that bank employees will attend their offices despite the suspension of public transactions. Internal operations and administrative work will continue as normal throughout the working day. Customers are advised to plan their banking activities accordingly.
The bank holiday also covers development financial institutions (DFIs) and microfinance banks operating across the country. These institutions will suspend public dealings for the day while maintaining routine office functions for staff members.
The announcement allows financial institutions to complete administrative and accounting procedures at the start of the new financial year. Customers are encouraged to use digital banking services, including ATMs, mobile banking, and online banking, where available.
