PMD forecasts widespread weekend rains

Published on: July 10, 2026 9:28 PM

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast widespread rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms across the country’s upper regions over the weekend. Heavy rainfall is expected in several areas, raising concerns about flash floods, landslides, and urban flooding. The weather system is also likely to ease the ongoing hot and humid conditions in many parts of Pakistan.

According to the PMD, moist currents from the Arabian Sea are continuously moving into the upper parts of the country and will strengthen by Saturday evening. A westerly weather system is also expected to enter northern Pakistan on Saturday. Together, these systems are likely to produce widespread rainfall until Monday.

The forecast includes rain and isolated heavy falls in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Narowal, Sargodha, and several central Punjab districts are also expected to receive rain and thunderstorms on Saturday and Sunday. Southern Punjab may experience scattered showers beginning Saturday night.

Meanwhile, Sindh is expected to remain mainly hot and humid. However, isolated rain is likely in Tharparkar, Sukkur, Shikarpur, Larkana, Dadu, and Jacobabad on Sunday and Monday. Parts of Balochistan, including Zhob, Sherani, Kohlu, Barkhan, Dera Bugti, and Khuzdar, are also forecast to receive isolated rain and windstorms.

The PMD has advised authorities and the public to remain vigilant during the forecast period. It warned that strong winds and lightning could damage vulnerable structures, while heavy rain may trigger landslides in mountainous areas and localized urban flooding in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Gujranwala, Lahore, and Faisalabad. Tourists, travelers, and farmers have also been urged to take precautionary measures.
