Pakistan and Saudi Arabia on Saturday called for maximum restraint amid renewed tensions between the United States and Iran, expressing concern over escalating hostilities in the region. Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan stressed the importance of dialogue and mediation. The development comes despite a previously signed Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding aimed at reducing tensions.
According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the two foreign ministers discussed recent regional developments during a telephone conversation. Both officials expressed concern over the escalation following the Islamabad MoU between Washington and Tehran. They agreed that renewed conflict would undermine regional peace and stability and serve no party’s interests.

The Saudi foreign minister shared Riyadh’s position on ongoing diplomatic efforts and highlighted the need for continued dialogue and de-escalation. Meanwhile, FM Dar reiterated Pakistan’s call for all sides to show restraint and provide mediation efforts with the necessary time and space to achieve a peaceful resolution.

The renewed tensions follow the breakdown of indirect talks between the United States and Iran in Qatar last week. The discussions were intended to support negotiations for a longer-term agreement after a 60-day ceasefire arrangement. However, fresh military actions have increased concerns over a wider regional confrontation.

The latest diplomatic engagement follows Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s separate calls with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The prime minister urged restraint and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting peaceful efforts. Pakistan and Saudi Arabia agreed to remain in close contact as regional tensions continue.
