Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar on Monday urged Organisation of Islamic Cooperation member states to ensure women and girls receive equal access to emerging technologies. Addressing the 9th OIC Ministerial Conference on Women in Islamabad, he said artificial intelligence must promote inclusion instead of widening inequality. He stressed that empowering women in the digital economy is essential for sustainable development across the Islamic world.
Tarar said artificial intelligence and digital innovation are transforming societies at an unprecedented pace. He noted that responsible governance could expand opportunities in employment, healthcare, entrepreneurship, and financial inclusion. However, he warned that poor regulation could create new forms of discrimination and exclusion. He called on OIC countries to ensure women are equipped to learn, innovate, and lead in the digital age.

The minister described women’s empowerment as both an economic necessity and a social imperative. He said no nation could achieve its full potential while half of its population lacked equal opportunities. Tarar added that Muslim women have historically excelled as scholars, entrepreneurs, educators, and leaders. He said governments must remove barriers that prevent women from fully contributing to national development.
