Punjab approves car scheme for judges

Published on: July 15, 2026 9:38 PM

The Lahore High Court has approved a subsidized vehicle scheme allowing judicial officers across Punjab to purchase official cars at heavily discounted prices. The initiative is aimed at improving transport facilities for members of the judiciary under the Transport Monetization Facility. Nearly 2,000 judicial officers are expected to benefit from the scheme.

According to an official circular, eligible officers will be able to purchase government vehicles for Rs250,000 to Rs350,000, depending on the category and entitlement. The scheme has been approved by the Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court and will be implemented across the provincial judiciary. Authorities said the facility forms part of broader efforts to improve administrative support for judicial officers.

The scheme covers District and Sessions Judges, Additional District and Sessions Judges, Senior Civil Judges, Civil Judges, and Judges of Family Courts. It also extends to judges serving in specialized courts, including Anti-Terrorism Courts, Accountability Courts, Banking Courts, FIA Courts, Anti-Narcotics Courts, Customs Courts, and Labour Courts.

In addition, judicial officers from the Punjab judiciary currently serving on deputation to the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Islamabad High Court, Constitutional Court, and other institutions will also be eligible. The circular states that the scheme is intended to provide uniform transport benefits to officers regardless of their current place of posting.

The approval marks a significant administrative decision for Punjab’s judicial system and is expected to enhance mobility for judicial officers across the province. Further implementation details, including the purchase process and eligibility requirements, are expected to be issued by the relevant authorities in due course.
