Russia condemns US strike on Iran nuclear site

Published on: July 20, 2026 9:36 PM

Russia has strongly condemned a reported US strike on Iran’s Darkhovin nuclear project, expressing concern over attacks targeting nuclear facilities. Moscow said such actions could increase regional tensions and create wider security risks.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said targeting nuclear installations as military objectives violates international law and United Nations resolutions. She called for an impartial assessment of the incident by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

According to Zakharova, using Iran’s peaceful nuclear programme as a justification for military action could create dangerous consequences for the region and the world. She urged international bodies to examine the situation carefully.

Meanwhile, Russia said all countries, including Iran, have the right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. Zakharova stressed that peaceful nuclear programmes should not be restricted through external pressure.

The Russian statement comes amid rising tensions between Iran and the United States. Additionally, military exchanges between the two countries have increased concerns over regional stability and the safety of strategic facilities.

Moscow has repeatedly called for diplomatic solutions to disputes related to Iran’s nuclear activities. Therefore, Russia continues to oppose military actions that could affect nuclear infrastructure and international security.

The latest remarks highlight growing global concerns over the conflict involving Iran and the United States. Meanwhile, international agencies are expected to monitor developments surrounding nuclear sites and regional security.
