Sridevi posthumously wins national award for ‘Mom’

Published on: April 13, 2018 6:42 PM

The late actor, Sridevi was titled the Best Actress for her part as a vengeful mother in the Indian film, ‘Mom’.

In the film, directed by Ravi Udyawar, Sridevi plays the role of a mother who plans to take revenge for her step daughter, played by Sajal Ali. Producer of the film and, jury chairperson for the 65th National Film Awards, Shekhar Kapur, told the media that Sridevi wasn’t chosen for the honor because of his relationship with her but due to her contribution to ‘Mom‘.

Sridevi’s husband Boney Kapoor and daughters Khushi and Jhanvi expressed their contentment in a joint statement.

“We are overjoyed to know that the jury has conferred the Best Actor Award to Sridevi for her performance in ‘Mom’. It’s a very special moment for all of us. She was always a perfectionist and it showed in all the 300 plus films she did. She was not just a super actor, but a super wife and a super mother. It’s time to celebrate her life and her achievements. She is not with us today but her legacy will always live on.”

The celebrated actor, Sridevi passed away in February in Dubai, leaving her family, fans and the entire film industry in utter shock.

Sridevi’s role in the film ‘Mom’ was close to her heart. In an interview, Sridevi said she felt proud to be a part of a film which brought about social consciousness. She was particularly glad that the film had made parents more aware about sending off their children to parties and made numerous girls become more cautious about the vehicle they sit in to go home.

“People reacted very well and I felt good about it,” she said.
