Pakistan, Uzbekistan discuss OIC agenda ahead of Istanbul summit

Published on: June 19, 2025 1:02 PM

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar held a telephone call with Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov to discuss bilateral and regional matters. The main focus of their conversation was the upcoming meeting of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM), scheduled to take place in Istanbul from July 21 to 22. Both sides shared their views on the expected agenda and agreed to coordinate closely during the event.

According to a statement from the Foreign Office, the two leaders emphasized the importance of unity among Muslim countries, especially in the current global climate. They also decided to hold a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the OIC CFM, where they will further explore avenues for cooperation. This meeting aims to strengthen ties between Pakistan and Uzbekistan and promote shared regional goals.

Just a day earlier, Senator Dar spoke with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy to address the growing tensions in the Middle East. The two leaders expressed serious concern about the worsening Iran-Israel conflict, which has raised global fears of instability and escalation. Both sides underlined the urgent need for restraint and diplomacy to prevent further violence.

Dar highlighted that Israel’s continued aggression towards Iran poses a direct threat to peace in the region and beyond. He stressed the importance of international efforts to manage the crisis and protect global stability. The UK and Pakistan agreed to remain in close contact and support peaceful solutions to rising tensions.

Meanwhile, preparations for the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers meeting are gaining momentum, as member states finalize their positions on major issues affecting the Muslim world. Discussions will likely focus on Palestine, Islamophobia, climate change, and conflicts in the Middle East. The Istanbul summit is expected to result in key decisions that promote cooperation and peace among member countries.

These recent diplomatic efforts by Pakistan reflect its active engagement in international affairs and its desire to promote peace through dialogue. By strengthening regional partnerships and pushing for unity at forums like the OIC, Pakistan aims to play a responsible role in shaping a stable and secure future.
