President, PM honor PAF’s role as nation marks air force day

Published on: September 7, 2025 3:50 PM

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday praised the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) for its decisive role during the recent military confrontation with India, while the nation solemnly observed Air Force Day. The annual commemoration, held on September 7, follows Defence Day and highlights the sacrifices of PAF heroes, especially their contributions during the 1965 war and more recent operations.

In their messages, both leaders lauded the professionalism and bravery of the PAF, stressing that its achievements had greatly strengthened Pakistan’s defence. The prime minister said that in the landmark operation Marka-e-Haq, the PAF displayed extraordinary leadership, superior strategy, and unmatched combat skills, leaving the world amazed at its capabilities. He added that PAF’s invincible performance reflects innovation, fearlessness, and commitment to safeguarding the country’s sovereignty.

President Zardari also paid tribute to the sacrifices of PAF martyrs, recalling their decisive roles in both the 1965 war and the recent confrontation with India. He expressed confidence that the PAF would continue to defend Pakistan’s skies with the same passion, courage, and professionalism that have always defined it. Both leaders affirmed that the PAF remains central to the nation’s strength and resilience.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Air Force observed Martyrs’ Day across all bases nationwide with solemn ceremonies and special prayers for martyrs of the 1965 and 1971 wars, as well as others who laid down their lives in service. At Air Headquarters Islamabad, a central ceremony was held, attended by Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu as chief guest.

In his address, the air chief said the victory in Marka-e-Haq once again demonstrated the PAF’s readiness and capability to defend the country’s aerial frontiers. He highlighted the Air Force’s legacy of courage, sacrifice, and professionalism, while affirming its commitment to enhancing space, cyber, electronic warfare, and indigenous defence capabilities in line with evolving security challenges.

To mark the occasion, the PAF also released a new patriotic song titled “Shaheen”, sung by Shuja Haider. The song pays tribute to the valour and professionalism of the Air Force, celebrating its unwavering role in protecting the sovereignty and pride of Pakistan.
