Pakistan's Meesha Shafi, Arooj Aftab secure 2026 Grammy nominations

LAHORE: Pakistani singers Meesha Shafi and Arooj Aftab have taken another big step in their global music careers by submitting their latest works for the 2026 Grammy Awards, set for February 1.

This is the fourth year in a row that both artists have been recognized by the Recording Academy, showing their growing impact on international music.

Meesha Shafi’s album Khilnay Ko, released earlier this year, has been submitted in three categories — Best Global Music Album, Best Global Music Performance, and Best Engineered Album (Non-Classical). The album blends experimental sounds and emotional lyrics, exploring themes of grief and healing.

Meanwhile, Arooj Aftab submitted the Khruangbin remix of her song Raat Ki Rani for Best Remixed Recording. The remix, featuring the Texas-based psychedelic band, gives the track a fresh, groove-filled twist while keeping Aftab’s signature calm and soulful voice.

Since winning a Grammy in 2022, Aftab has gained global fame for blending South Asian classical music with modern minimalism.

Their continued Grammy participation marks a proud moment for Pakistan’s music industry, inspiring young artists and shining a light on the country’s creative talent.

Grammy voting for the first round continues until October 15.
