Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has threatened to boycott the upcoming budget session if its demand is not met. The party says it must be allowed to meet its founder Imran Khan. The warning escalates tensions in the National Assembly ahead of budget proceedings.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar said no meeting has been arranged despite court orders. He said the party has been denied access for 34 weeks. He warned that PTI would boycott the budget session if the issue remains unresolved. The statement came during his speech in the National Assembly.
National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq responded by saying production orders apply only to sitting members. He added that efforts had been made multiple times to bring government and opposition together. However, he said the opposition had not fully participated in dialogue initiatives. The exchange highlighted ongoing friction between both sides.
Barrister Gohar also criticized the upcoming budget, calling it non-public-friendly. He said inflation remains high and citizens deserve immediate relief. He further questioned government performance and parliamentary attendance. He also claimed that session costs are extremely high and require better oversight.
He added that the Prime Minister should regularly attend parliament and answer questions. He said a truly democratic system would not ignore parliamentary debate. Meanwhile, opposition lawmakers continue to press for institutional access and procedural reforms. The dispute is expected to influence budget session dynamics.
