AJK PM Anwarul Haq faces crucial no-trust vote today

Published on: November 17, 2025 3:20 AM

The voting on much-awaited no-confidence motion against Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq will be held today (Monday) in the AJK Legislative Assembly. The AJK Legislative Assembly secretariat has issued the agenda in this regard.

Meanwhile, Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, PPP nominee for the top slot, has secured the support of two additional members from the forward bloc. AJK Minister for Education Diwan Chughtai has announced his support for the PPP after meeting Faryal Talpur.

Moreover, another cabinet member Professor Taqadas Gillani has also withdrawn her support for Anwarul Haq.

Taqadas Gillani was elected on a reserved seat for women. With the latest developments, the PPP now enjoys the backing of 38 members of the Legislative Assembly.

On the other hand, sources close to Chaudhry Anwarul Haq said that he intends to face the no-confidence motion.

PTI, the Muslim Conference, and the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Party are expected to remain neutral during the vote.

Earlier, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari asked the party’s nominee for prime minister slot Faisal Mumtaz Rathore to increase public contact.

A meeting was held between Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Faisal Mumtaz Rathore on Saturday at Zardari House.

During the meeting, the PPP chairman asked the PPP candidate that it was his responsibility to solve the problems of the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

“Solve the problems of the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir responsibly and amicably. Increase contacts at the public level to know their problems,” PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said.

Separately, Bilawal Bhutto and President Women’s Wing Faryal Talpur held a meeting with PPP Central Punjab President Raja Pervez Ashraf and Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi at Zardari House on Sunday. During the meeting, the leaders discussed the prevailing national political situation and reviewed the party’s ongoing strategy in light of recent developments.

The participants exchanged views on key political matters and emphasized strengthening coordination within the party’s provincial and central leadership.

The meeting was part of PPP’s continued consultations aimed at shaping the party’s political direction in the evolving national landscape.
