Trump Cancels Biden Autopen Orders Amid Legal Debate

Trump Cancels Biden Autopen Orders Amid Legal Debate

US President Donald Trump announced he is voiding all Biden autopen orders issued during his presidency. Trump claims documents signed using the autopen were illegal without direct presidential involvement. He said approximately 92 percent of Biden’s executive actions were affected.

The autopen is a mechanical device that replicates signatures with real ink. Previous presidents, including Obama and George W. Bush, used it routinely for official documents. Trump argued that Biden was mentally unfit to govern due to autopen use.

Legal experts warn that Trump’s cancellations face immediate judicial scrutiny. Courts have long ruled that presidential approval, not the method of signing, validates actions. Agencies could face confusion over which Biden-era rules remain enforceable.

The move also raises concerns for foreign relations. International agreements on trade, visas, climate, and security could be uncertain. Allies may seek clarifications about US commitments.

Trump’s focus on Biden autopen orders underscores political polarization in Washington. The decision may be legally challenged, but it strengthens Trump’s efforts to overturn prior policies.
