Google expands AI-powered virtual apparel try-on for shoppers

Published on: December 3, 2025 5:19 PM

How to use Google’s Virtual Apparel Try-On feature to shop for clothes
Google announced on Wednesday the expansion of its Virtual Apparel Try-On feature, aiming to deliver a smarter and more personalized shopping experience for online consumers. The AI-powered tool allows users to see how clothing items would look on them before making a purchase, helping to reduce uncertainty and boost confidence. This feature is part of Google’s broader Shopping Graph initiative, which provides access to billions of apparel listings.

Originally introduced at Google I/O in May and initially available to select users in July, the feature is now accessible across Google platforms, including AI Mode, Google Shopping, and Google Images. Shoppers can simply tap the ‘try it on’ icon on eligible product listings, upload a full-length photo, and instantly see a realistic preview of themselves wearing the selected item.

The AI behind the feature analyzes users’ body shapes to simulate how various fabrics fold, stretch, and drape across different body types. It supports a wide range of clothing items, from tops and bottoms to dresses, jackets, and even shoes, providing a highly interactive virtual fitting experience.

The benefits of this tool extend beyond convenience. By allowing customers to visualize clothing and accessories before purchasing, it reduces the likelihood of returns, saving time and effort for both shoppers and retailers. It also makes online shopping more engaging and immersive, bridging the gap between physical stores and digital platforms.
