Upper Kohistan District Police Officer Tahir Iqbal said a search-and-strike operation had been launched to target criminals and ensure the safety of Chinese engineers and workers involved in the Dasu and Diamer-Basha hydropower projects. Ten criminals wanted for murder and other serious crimes were arrested, and arms and ammunition were recovered.

“We have established eight police posts along the Karakoram Highway within our jurisdiction to ensure the safety of Chinese nationals working on various energy and development projects,” the DPO told reporters. He added that all entry and exit points of the district had been sealed as part of the operation.

The DPO urged local residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, saying that police were fully committed to maintaining law and order. He noted that the Chinese-funded projects would help address the country’s electricity shortfall and benefit local communities.

Separately, residents of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa urged the Punjab Chief Minister to lift the ban on interprovincial transport of wheat and flour, claiming the restriction had caused prices to nearly double. Mohammad Ayub, a resident, said the ban had increased the cost of a bag of flour from Rs1,700 to Rs3,000, adding that people were struggling to afford basic necessities. He also called on the federal government to ensure uninterrupted wheat supply to the province.
