KARACHI: Condemnations poured in from across Pakistan on Friday after a suicide bombing struck Imambargah Khadijah-tul-Kubra in Islamabad Tarlai area during Friday prayers, killing at least 31 people and injuring 169, according to authorities.

President Asif Ali Zardari expressed deep grief over the attack and offered condolences to the families of the victims. In a statement shared by the Pakistan Peoples Party, he termed the targeting of innocent civilians a “crime against humanity” and directed authorities to ensure all possible medical facilities for the injured.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also condemned the bombing and expressed sympathy with the bereaved families. During a meeting with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, he ordered a thorough investigation and directed that those responsible be identified and brought to justice. He further instructed that the injured receive the best possible medical care under the supervision of the health minister.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar described the attack as a “cowardly act” and said targeting places of worship violated Islamic principles. He stressed that Pakistan stood united against terrorism in all its forms. Similar condemnations were issued by Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, all of whom emphasised zero tolerance for terrorism.

Religious and professional bodies, including the JUI-F, Pakistan Ulema Council and Pakistan Bar Council, also condemned the attack and demanded swift action against the perpetrators.
Meanwhile, protests erupted in several cities, including Karachi, Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza and Nagar, with demonstrators blocking roads and chanting slogans against terrorism. Protesters demanded improved security for places of worship and accountability for the attack. Authorities in Sindh said security at mosques and imambargahs had been further tightened following the incident.
