T20 World Cup blow: Abhishek Sharma hospitalised

Published on: February 11, 2026 5:30 PM

India’s T20 World Cup campaign faces a setback as opener Abhishek Sharma has been hospitalised with a stomach infection. His availability for the upcoming match against Namibia is now uncertain, raising concerns over India’s batting lineup.

Sharma, who had prior health issues before India’s game against the United States, was admitted to a private hospital in Delhi after his condition worsened. He was immediately put on drips due to high fever, and medical tests are ongoing to determine the exact nature of his illness.

The batter missed the practice session at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, further complicating India’s preparations. Officials say his participation against Namibia will depend on his recovery in the next 24–48 hours.

To fill the gap, Washington Sundar has been included in the squad as Sharma’s replacement. Team management emphasized that Sundar’s inclusion ensures a balanced lineup for the upcoming match.
