The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has lifted the two-year ban on national team captain Ammad Shakeel Butt, Federal Secretary for Inter-Provincial Coordination and Ad-Hoc Pakistan Hockey Federation President Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani announced on Thursday. The suspension was originally imposed by former PHF president Tariq Bugti, who resigned amid allegations of player mistreatment during a tour of Australia.

Wani emphasized that Butt can now focus entirely on training and matches, while the federation manages administrative matters. “All relevant institutions are united in their efforts to bring Pakistan’s national sport back to prominence,” he said.
Under Wani’s leadership, the PHF plans to implement transparent and democratic elections to appoint new officials. The Ad-Hoc President stated that stabilizing the federation, restoring confidence, and reorganizing team management are top priorities.
In the short term, Wani intends to address immediate issues affecting players and the team, while developing a long-term strategy to improve the sport nationwide. Plans include strengthening coaching and training programs, fostering institutional partnerships, improving governance, ensuring transparent resource use, and collaborating with the private sector to enhance facilities for players.

The move comes as part of broader efforts to revive Pakistan hockey’s status on the international stage after recent struggles and internal controversies. Officials hope that removing administrative hurdles and supporting the national captain will motivate the team and boost performance in upcoming tournaments.
