Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced emergency economic measures as the fuel crisis deepens due to regional conflict. She said the government will take extraordinary steps to reduce pressure on fuel supplies and manage the economic impact.
First, the government suspended official fuel for provincial ministers until the petroleum crisis ends. In addition, it immediately cut petrol and diesel allowances for government officers’ vehicles by 50 percent. Authorities also banned protocol vehicles accompanying ministers and senior officials.
Meanwhile, the government introduced a work-from-home policy in public offices to reduce unnecessary travel. Only essential staff will report to offices, while others will work remotely. Officials said government work will continue through online meetings and teleconferences.
Furthermore, schools, colleges, and universities across Punjab will remain closed from March 10 to March 31. However, examinations will continue according to the existing schedule. Educational institutions may conduct online classes during this period to avoid disruption in learning.
Finally, the chief minister ordered strict monitoring of fuel supply, transport fares, and food availability across the province. She also urged citizens to avoid hoarding, late-night shopping, and unnecessary events, saying unity and patience are essential as Punjab enforces emergency economic measures during the fuel crisis.
