Sarfaraz Ahmed announces retirement, leaves lasting legacy in Pakistan cricket

Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has officially retired from international cricket, concluding a remarkable career that spanned 54 Tests, 61 T20Is, and 117 One-Day Internationals, leaving an indelible mark on the sport.

Throughout his career, Sarfaraz scored 6,164 runs and led Pakistan in 100 international matches, guiding the national team to major victories, including the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017, cementing his place in cricket history.

Under his captaincy, Pakistan’s T20 team reached the world’s number one ranking, and Sarfaraz remains the only Pakistani captain to have won ICC titles at both junior and senior levels, showcasing his exceptional leadership.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions, the Government of Pakistan awarded him the Pride of Performance in 2018, highlighting his achievements and his role in elevating Pakistan cricket on the global stage.

Reflecting on his journey, Sarfaraz expressed gratitude to teammates, coaches, family, and fans, describing representing Pakistan as the greatest honor of his life and recalling victories like the U19 World Cup and Champions Trophy.

He concluded by affirming his continued commitment to the sport, stating that Pakistan cricket will always hold a special place in his heart, and he aims to serve and inspire future generations of players.
