Israel warns United States of critical interceptor shortage amid Iran conflict

Published on: March 15, 2026 4:24 PM

Israel has alerted the United States that it is running critically low on ballistic missile interceptors as tensions with Iran escalate, raising concerns over the country’s ability to defend against long-range attacks.

Reports indicate that Israel entered the current conflict already short on interceptors following heavy usage during last summer’s clashes with Iran, straining its long-range air defense systems even further amid ongoing missile threats.

Analysts noted that Iran has begun deploying cluster munitions on its missiles, potentially accelerating Israel’s interceptor depletion, prompting the country to explore alternative defense measures, including fighter jets alongside its Iron Dome system.

A US official confirmed Washington has been aware of Israel’s limited capacity for months, emphasizing that American stockpiles remain sufficient to protect US bases and personnel in the region if necessary.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that the United States possesses “more than enough” interceptors to achieve objectives in the ongoing conflict, assuring allies of continued strategic support while Israel seeks defensive alternatives.

Experts warn that interceptors are among Israel’s most effective defenses against long-range Iranian strikes, making their shortage a strategic concern as the conflict shows no immediate signs of de-escalation in the Gulf region.
