Zardari, Shehbaz honour workers on Labour Day

Pakistan’s top leadership paid tribute to workers on Labour Day, calling them the backbone of the economy. The statements highlight the government’s focus on labour rights and economic inclusion. Millions of workers at home and abroad were recognised for their contributions.

President Asif Ali Zardari described workers as the “foundation of the economy” in his message. He said empowering labour ensures national strength and long-term prosperity. He also emphasised the need to protect workers’ rights and improve their living conditions.

Moreover, the president reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to international labour standards and fair workplace practices. He highlighted priorities such as fair wages, social protection, and eliminating child and forced labour. He added that these efforts align with global development goals and labour conventions.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised workers for sustaining the economy through dedication and resilience. He acknowledged their contributions across industries and daily life, both within Pakistan and abroad. He also pledged continued government support for worker welfare and job creation.

Additionally, the prime minister assured that policies would focus on strengthening protections and expanding opportunities. He said workers remain central to the national agenda for growth and stability. The messages coincided with global observance of International Labour Day, honouring labour contributions worldwide.
