Angelina Jolie wins court ruling in ongoing Brad Pitt winery dispute

Published on: May 6, 2026 2:17 PM

Angelina Jolie has secured a legal victory in her ongoing dispute with ex-husband Brad Pitt over their shared French winery, Château Miraval, after a Los Angeles judge ruled that Pitt cannot access her private emails.

The ruling, issued on Monday, rejected Pitt’s request to obtain Jolie’s communications, which he argued were relevant to the long-running legal battle over the winery. Judge Ciny Pánuco determined that Pitt “has not met his burden” to justify breaching attorney-client privilege protections, meaning the requested emails will remain confidential.

Jolie’s legal team welcomed the decision, calling it a significant win in the broader dispute. Her attorney, Paul Murphy, said the court’s ruling reinforces the importance of protecting privileged communications and accused Pitt’s side of attempting to overreach in seeking private documents.

Murphy further alleged that the request was part of a broader pattern of aggressive legal tactics. “This is part of Mr. Pitt’s pattern of demanding control over anything Angelina,” he said following the ruling.

A source close to Pitt’s legal team pushed back on the characterization, stating that the judge had allowed further review of certain arguments as new evidence emerges. They also claimed that Jolie’s side has withheld a large number of documents under privilege claims.

The legal conflict stems from Pitt’s 2022 lawsuit against Jolie over her sale of her stake in Château Miraval, a luxury wine estate in France that the couple once co-owned. Jolie has countered with allegations that Pitt engaged in a prolonged and retaliatory legal campaign against her following their separation.

Since then, the case has expanded to include disputes over nondisclosure agreements, financial claims, and references to earlier incidents during their relationship. Although the couple finalized their divorce in 2024, their legal battles over assets continue to draw attention.

The latest ruling marks another development in what has become a highly publicized and increasingly complex post-divorce legal dispute.
