Bilawal calls urgent PPP meeting over AJK tensions

Published on: June 7, 2026 5:21 PM

Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has convened an urgent party meeting in Islamabad to review the political situation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir amid rising tensions and growing instability in the region. Party sources confirmed that the meeting will assess recent developments and shape the party’s future response.

According to PPP insiders, Bilawal expressed dissatisfaction over the current political environment in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and directed senior leaders of the PPP AJK chapter to attend the high-level consultation. The leadership is expected to discuss internal coordination and emerging governance challenges.

Furthermore, the meeting is scheduled for Sunday evening in Islamabad, where party leaders will evaluate the evolving law and order situation in the region. Officials indicated that key policy decisions may emerge depending on the discussions and security assessment presented during the session.

The political backdrop includes the recent decision by the AJK government to declare the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee a banned organization. In response, the group announced a region-wide strike planned for June 9, increasing concerns about further unrest.

Meanwhile, analysts note that the situation has added pressure on political stakeholders to respond carefully, as tensions continue to escalate between authorities and opposition groups. The upcoming PPP meeting is expected to focus on both governance issues and public order implications.

Additionally, party insiders suggest that Bilawal aims to formulate a clear political strategy for AJK, balancing institutional stability with public concerns. The outcome of the meeting is likely to influence PPP’s position on the unfolding crisis in the region.
