Wedding called off after bride’s dance entrance sparks dispute

Published on: June 9, 2026 3:30 PM

A wedding in India’s Haryana state was reportedly called off after a disagreement erupted between the two families over the bride’s dance performance during her entrance to the wedding venue.

According to Indian media reports, tensions began when members of the groom’s family objected to the bride’s entry, which featured a choreographed dance as she made her way into the marriage hall. The performance, which was intended as part of the wedding celebrations, was reportedly viewed unfavourably by some relatives from the groom’s side.

The situation escalated when the groom’s father and elder brother expressed their displeasure over the bride’s public dance. A heated exchange allegedly followed between representatives of both families, turning what was meant to be a festive occasion into a confrontation.

Reports indicate that the disagreement intensified to the point where the groom’s father decided to cancel the wedding. Following the dispute, members of the wedding procession reportedly left the venue, bringing the ceremony to an abrupt end.

A video showing the bride’s entrance has since circulated widely on social media, attracting significant public attention and generating debate among users. The footage shows the bride dancing as she enters the venue, a trend that has become increasingly common at weddings across South Asia in recent years.

Social media reactions have been mixed. Some users argued that there was nothing inappropriate about the bride participating in a celebratory dance at her own wedding and criticised the decision to end the marriage over the issue. Others suggested that expectations and cultural preferences regarding wedding ceremonies should have been discussed by both families beforehand to avoid misunderstandings.

A number of commenters also expressed differing opinions about the style of the dance performance, reflecting broader discussions about tradition, personal expression and changing wedding customs.
