NA adopts motion to suspend MNA Iqbal Khan over misconduct

Published on: June 12, 2026 7:45 AM

The National Assembly on Thursday passed a motion to suspend the membership of MNA Muhammad Iqbal Khan from NA-27 for the entire ongoing session over allegations of misconduct and disorderly behaviour in the House.

The House approved a motion moved by Farah Naz Akbar regarding his suspension.

According to the motion, Muhammad Iqbal Khan was found using abusive language against the Director General (Media) of the National Assembly Secretariat during proceedings on 3 April 2026 and allegedly issued threats. It also stated that he repeatedly misbehaved with police and security staff deployed at the Parliament and with the Chair.

The motion further said that on 13 May 2026, he undermined the authority of the Chair and used inappropriate language against fellow members, disrupting the dignity and discipline of the House. It added that his conduct violated parliamentary rules and obstructed proceedings.

Invoking Rule 21 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007, the mover asked the House to suspend the member for the remainder of the session.

Speaking in the House, Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said the suspension would remain in force for the entire session, and the member would not receive any allowances. He stressed that due process would be followed.

The Speaker also referred to earlier incidents, including alleged misconduct outside Gate No. 1 of the Parliament, where staff members were reportedly assaulted, and another incident at Serena Chowk, where a police constable was allegedly manhandled.

He said he had previously sought apologies in such cases but warned that no further leniency would be shown.

He added that one member was damaging the reputation of the entire House through repeated misconduct.

The Speaker also referred the matter of alleged misuse of a Pakistani passport by the MNA’s son to the relevant committee for further investigation.

State Minister for Interior Talal Chaudhry informed the House about the alleged misuse of a blue diplomatic passport by the son of Muhammad Iqbal Khan, saying it had caused embarrassment for Pakistan internationally.

He said the incident involved the MNA’s son travelling to Europe using the passport and reaching Italy. He stressed that the matter required thorough investigation, stating that misuse of official privileges undermines institutional dignity and damages the country’s image.

He called for the issue to be referred to a committee for proper examination and accountability.
