Putin backs US-Iran deal, hails Islamabad MoU

Published on: June 18, 2026 10:37 PM

Russian President Vladimir Putin has praised the Islamabad memorandum of understanding, calling it a significant step toward a lasting settlement of regional disputes. His remarks came during the ASEAN summit held in the Russian city of Kazan. The statement underscores growing international support for the agreement.

Putin said Moscow views the accord as an important breakthrough in diplomatic efforts. He added that the agreement could help reduce tensions and promote long-term stability. His comments highlight Russia’s interest in broader peace initiatives in the Middle East.

The Russian president also said the deal could serve as a model for future peace agreements. He stressed that sustained stability in the region would benefit global energy markets. His remarks reflect concerns over energy security and global economic impacts.

The Islamabad memorandum has drawn attention from multiple international stakeholders. It is seen as part of wider diplomatic efforts involving regional and global powers. Countries involved are expected to monitor its implementation closely in the coming weeks.

Officials have not provided further details on Russia’s direct role in the agreement framework. However, Putin’s comments indicate support for continued diplomatic engagement. Analysts say such endorsements may help strengthen momentum for negotiations.
