Trump claims he prevented Israel’s destruction

Published on: June 19, 2026 9:15 PM

US President Donald Trump has claimed his intervention was crucial in preventing Israel’s destruction during its recent conflict with Iran, while warning that a broader regional war could trigger a global economic crisis. He said his diplomatic efforts helped contain tensions and avoid wider instability. The remarks come as efforts continue to preserve a fragile ceasefire framework between Washington and Tehran.

In an interview with Axios, Trump said Israel values his leadership and pays close attention to his advice. He also asserted that he has enough influence to prevent further Israeli military escalation in Lebanon if necessary. Referring to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump said their relationship remains strong but requires restraint and balance.

The US president argued that a wider conflict involving Iran would have serious consequences for the global economy. He warned that prolonged fighting could disrupt energy markets, increase oil prices and create broader economic uncertainty. According to Trump, diplomatic engagement helped avert a scenario that might have triggered worldwide financial instability.

Trump also used the interview to reflect on the influence of the American presidency. He said recent developments reinforced his belief in the power of the office and claimed that global leaders respect US leadership. During the discussion, he praised Xi Jinping and Narendra Modi, describing both as strong and effective leaders.

Defending the interim US-Iran agreement, Trump said the deal represented a significant diplomatic achievement despite criticism from some allies. He maintained that avoiding a prolonged conflict serves both American and global interests. As negotiations continue toward a broader settlement, Trump said maintaining stability in the Middle East remains a top priority.
