Manzambi shines as Switzerland cruise past Bosnia

Published on: June 19, 2026 7:05 PM

Switzerland strengthened their FIFA World Cup campaign with an impressive 4-1 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina, thanks to a match-winning performance from young midfielder Johan Manzambi. The 20-year-old came off the bench in the second half and scored twice, helping his team secure a vital win after opening the tournament with a draw against Qatar.

Manzambi’s impact transformed the contest as Switzerland increased the tempo and created more attacking opportunities. His two goals not only sealed the result but also highlighted the growing importance of the Freiburg midfielder within the national team setup. The victory allowed Switzerland to regain momentum and improve their position in Group B as the competition intensifies.

Speaking after the match, Manzambi described the achievement as a special moment in his career. He revealed that it was the first brace he had scored in professional football and expressed delight at reaching the milestone on the world’s biggest football stage. The young midfielder said instinct guided him in a crowded penalty area when he converted one of his chances.

Switzerland coach Murat Yakin praised Manzambi’s versatility and technical ability, emphasizing that the youngster can perform effectively in several positions across the pitch. According to the coach, his creativity, adaptability and attacking mindset provide valuable options for the team, although he believes the midfielder still has room to develop tactically.

The young star also credited his calm approach for helping him perform under pressure. Rather than focusing on the magnitude of the occasion, he concentrated on supporting his teammates and following the coach’s instructions. Having family members in attendance made the night even more memorable and added emotional significance to his standout display.

The convincing victory has boosted Switzerland’s confidence as they prepare for the next stage of the tournament. After learning important lessons from their opening draw, the team responded with a disciplined and energetic performance. With emerging talents such as Manzambi making a strong impact, Switzerland appears well positioned to challenge for further success in the competition.
