
Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has departed for Switzerland along with a high-level delegation to participate in the upcoming Iran-US Talks. The discussions are being held under the framework of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and are considered an important step in ongoing diplomatic efforts.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, technical-level negotiations will take place today in Bürgenstock, Switzerland. The talks are aimed at advancing discussions and follow-up measures related to the memorandum signed between the concerned parties.
The statement added that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will be joined by Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. Their participation is being viewed as a significant development in the diplomatic process.
A spokesperson for Pakistan’s Foreign Office said that the negotiations are being held as a follow-up to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. Pakistan will continue to play its role as a facilitator and mediator to support dialogue and promote regional stability.
Meanwhile, US representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are already in Switzerland, while US Vice President J.D. Vance is also expected to arrive. On the Iranian side, a delegation led by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has traveled to Switzerland. The delegation includes Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Ali Bagheri, Abdolnaser Hemmati, Kazem Gharibabadi, and Esmaeil Baghaei. Officials believe the Iran-US Talks could contribute to greater diplomatic cooperation and regional peace.
