US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met Qatari mediators in Doha on Tuesday to discuss key regional issues. Qatar clarified the visit does not include direct negotiations between the United States and Iran. The talks come as diplomatic efforts continue to stabilize the Middle East following months of conflict.
Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al Ansari said the American delegation is holding discussions with Qatari officials on several regional matters. He said the agenda includes Iran, Lebanon, and other regional developments. However, he stressed that the envoys were not in Doha for negotiations with Iranian representatives.
The United States and Iran had previously announced they would send officials to Qatar following a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the conflict that began with US-Israeli strikes on Iran in February. Despite those announcements, Al Ansari said no direct or high-level meetings between Washington and Tehran are scheduled in the coming days. He added that Iran currently has no senior delegation in Doha.
According to the Qatari official, Iranian technical teams continue travelling to Doha as negotiations progress. He said lower-level discussions cover Iran’s nuclear programme, economic matters, state performance, and regional security. These technical exchanges are intended to address implementation details rather than broader political decisions.
Qatar has played an increasingly active diplomatic role in recent regional negotiations after initially declining mediation while under Iranian attacks. More recently, the Gulf state has supported efforts to advance dialogue following an April ceasefire brokered by Pakistan. Doha continues to position itself as a key facilitator of regional diplomacy.
