Reports on Wednesday claimed that two Indian television news channels were targeted in a cyberattack during a presidential address. The alleged breach reportedly disrupted broadcasts and aired Pakistan’s national anthem. The incident, if confirmed, would raise fresh concerns over cybersecurity at major media organizations.
According to the reports, unidentified hackers allegedly gained access to the broadcasting systems of TV9 Telugu and Freedom TV Kannada. During the reported breach, TV9 Telugu allegedly aired Pakistan’s national anthem while the Indian president was delivering a speech. The reports also claimed an on-screen message warned India against provoking Pakistan.
The reports further stated that the cyberattack affected the normal transmission of both channels. They claimed TV9 Telugu has around 14 million followers across its social media platforms. Freedom TV Kannada was also reported to have more than one million followers.
However, Indian authorities and the affected broadcasters had not officially confirmed the reported cyberattack or its details at the time of publication. The identity of those responsible also remained unknown. Independent verification of the claims was not immediately available.
The reported incident comes as cybersecurity remains a growing concern for governments, media organizations, and critical infrastructure worldwide. Officials are expected to investigate the alleged breach if confirmed. Further details are likely to emerge as authorities and broadcasters respond.
