After causing widespread damage in the Philippines, Taiwan, and Japan, Typhoon Bavi is expected to make landfall along China’s eastern coast this morning. Chinese authorities have taken extensive precautionary measures, evacuating millions of residents from vulnerable coastal areas.
Around two million people have been relocated from coastal areas of Zhejiang Province ahead of the storm. Officials have also canceled more than 400 flights and dozens of train services, while schools, government offices, public transportation, and outdoor activities have been suspended.
In the Philippines, Typhoon Bavi triggered landslides and other weather-related incidents that killed 18 people, while six others remain missing. Emergency teams continue search and rescue operations in the affected areas.
Taiwan reported 36 injuries and nearly 14,000 people displaced by the storm. More than 170,000 households in Taipei lost electricity, and hundreds of flights were canceled due to severe weather conditions.
In southern Japan, over 300 flights were canceled, ferry services were suspended, and electricity was cut to more than 24,000 homes. Authorities in China have urged residents in coastal areas to stay indoors and follow emergency instructions as the powerful storm approaches.
