Ayesha Omar reacts to Karachi’s global liveability ranking

Published on: July 13, 2026 1:04 PM

Actor, model, and singer Ayesha Omar has spoken out about the challenges of living in Karachi after the city was ranked among the least liveable cities in the world in the Economist Intelligence Unit’s (EIU) Global Liveability Index 2026.

The latest report placed Karachi at 170th out of 173 cities, highlighting concerns over factors such as infrastructure, stability, healthcare, education, and overall quality of life. The ranking sparked discussions online, with many residents sharing their own experiences of living in Pakistan’s largest city.

Reacting to the report through an Instagram Story, Ayesha Omar said the ranking did not come as a surprise to her. She remarked that Karachi’s residents deserve medals for continuing to live in the city despite the many hardships they face every day.

The actress pointed to several long-standing issues affecting daily life, including damaged and poorly maintained roads, heavy traffic congestion, limited gas and electricity supply, and the constant fear of street crime. According to her, these challenges have become part of everyday life for millions of Karachi residents.

Ayesha Omar also highlighted the financial burden on citizens, saying that people continue to work hard, pay taxes, and contribute to the country’s economy despite receiving inadequate public services. She added that many residents are forced to live in a constant state of stress and uncertainty, describing it as a “fight or flight” situation.

Her comments quickly gained traction across social media platforms, where many users agreed with her observations and shared similar concerns about the city’s infrastructure and public services. Others called for authorities to take practical steps to improve urban planning, transportation, public safety, and utility services.

The discussion surrounding Karachi’s ranking has once again drawn attention to the need for long-term investment in infrastructure and better civic management to improve the quality of life for its millions of residents.
