A former Microsoft employee has described leaving his high-paying job in Switzerland to pursue his entrepreneurial dreams as the “dumbest decision” of his life, admitting that building a career outside the corporate world proved far more difficult than he had expected.

According to international media reports, Christian Harms, now 27, resigned from his Microsoft position, where he earned an annual salary of $200,000 (around Rs57 million), and moved to Australia to become a content creator and online entrepreneur.
In a video titled My Museum of Failures as a 27-year-old who quit his dream job, Harms reflected on the challenges of leaving behind not only financial security but also the professional identity and stability associated with a prestigious corporate role.
He revealed that he had expected to establish his own company by now, but things did not go according to plan. Despite moments of self-doubt and disappointment, Harms said he still believes he is moving in the right direction and remains committed to pursuing his long-term goals.
Harms explained that he relocated to Australia without a detailed plan, giving himself just five months to determine his next steps. During that period, he focused on creating online content, working with brands and exploring digital business opportunities. However, months of planning and experimentation failed to deliver the success he had envisioned.
He also shared that he earned his first online income only one week before his scheduled return flight home. The experience taught him that he tends to perform best under intense pressure, a habit he acknowledged is far from ideal.
Reflecting on his entrepreneurial journey, Harms admitted that what he initially believed was careful business planning was, in reality, fear disguised as productivity.
