
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz inaugurated the Green Electric Bus Service in five cities and announced plans to operate 5,000 electric buses across the province within five years. The initiative aims to improve public transport and promote environmentally friendly travel. Free travel will be available for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, women, and students.
The electric bus service has been launched in Layyah, Chiniot, Sialkot, Okara, and Murree. Addressing a ceremony in Arifwala, Maryam Nawaz described the project as Pakistan’s largest public transport initiative. She congratulated residents of the cities where the service has started.

The chief minister said another 1,500 electric buses will be added during the current year. She stated that the provincial government aims to expand the fleet to 5,000 buses over the next five years. The expansion is intended to improve transport accessibility across Punjab.
Maryam Nawaz said the government is committed to providing affordable and modern transport facilities to the public. She announced that senior citizens, persons with disabilities, women, and students would be able to travel free of charge on the electric buses. The initiative is also expected to support cleaner urban transportation.

The chief minister added that the Punjab government is continuing student welfare programmes alongside transport reforms. She said laptops, electric bikes, tablets, and 50,000 scholarships are being provided to students. The government aims to improve education, mobility, and public services throughout the province.
