Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said a peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in line with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions remains essential for protecting the rights of the Kashmiri people and ensuring lasting peace across the region. She made the remarks while marking Accession to Pakistan Day and reaffirmed Pakistan’s continued support for the Kashmir cause.

Maryam Nawaz said the resolution adopted by the people of Jammu and Kashmir on July 19, 1947, in favour of accession to Pakistan reflected their longstanding political aspirations and highlighted the deep historical, cultural and emotional ties between Kashmir and Pakistan. She described the occasion as an important reminder of the enduring relationship shared by the two sides.
Furthermore, the chief minister said the government and people of Pakistan would continue extending diplomatic, political and moral support to the Kashmiri people. She added that Pakistan would keep raising the issue of Kashmiris’ right to self-determination at international forums while advocating for a peaceful and just settlement of the dispute.

Maryam Nawaz also said the people of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir have waited for decades to exercise their internationally recognised right to self-determination. She paid tribute to their sacrifices, resilience and determination, expressing hope that they would one day be able to decide their future through a peaceful process.
She concluded that a fair and peaceful settlement of the Kashmir dispute remains important not only for safeguarding the rights of the Kashmiri people but also for promoting long-term stability, security and prosperity throughout South Asia. She reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to supporting a peaceful resolution through dialogue and international legal frameworks.
